Palace on wheels packageA few hundreds of years ago, when India was ruled by different kings, the train was considered as a royal ride, meant for only Kings and executives during the British rule.

After independence, trains became a common mode of travel. However, some trains still provide royal travel experience in India and one of them is the ‘Palace on Wheels’.

The luxurious train was started by Indian Railways and Rajasthan Tourism to promote tourism in Rajasthan and the first schedule was dated 1982.

What Destinations are covered and how long is the journey?

It offers 7 nights/8 days of a royal journey covering amazing tourist destinations of North India – The Pink City – Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Ranthambore National Park, Chittorgarh, The city of lakes- Udaipur, Bharatpur bird sanctuary and, Agra (the symbol of love), before returning to Delhi.

How many tourists can the train accommodate?

The train has fourteen coaches named after famous places in Rajasthan and the train can accommodate more than 80 tourists for seven nights and eight days.

Each coach in the train has the twin and double bedded cabins with facilities like music channel, attached toilets, shower, intercom, internet connection, a mini pantry, and separate safe etc.

Facilities on The Palace On Wheels

The Saloon

Each coach has a Saloon embodied with traditional handicrafts and furniture. Each saloon has a mini pantry and an attached bathroom. The train attendants are available on 24×7 service.

Restaurant and The Bar

The famous restaurants are Maharani restaurant and Maharaja restaurant. They offer traditional dishes from different states of India and also offer many international cuisines.

The restaurant has a different menu every day and it is open 24×7.

The bar serves national and international brands of liquor, wines, and other non-alcoholic beverages along with snacks.

Sitting Lounge

Luxurious lounge is the best place to relax, read a book, and to interact with fellow passengers.

Bedroom

Each bedroom is equipped with an attached bath with running hot/cold water and showers, built-in wardrobes, overhead and night lights, reading lights etc.

Spa

Spa service is available 24×7 and it is chargeable.
