CBI Gutkha scam Tamil Nadu

CBI today conducted raids at various places of Tamil Nadu including the house of Health Minister and Police Chief in their connection with ‘Gutkha scam’. Supreme Court allowed CBI to investigate the case and make arrests. The Gutkha scam goes all the way back to 2014-16 when MDM, a company manufacturing Guktha bribed various officials and ministers amounting in crores of Rupees for the continued sale of the banned product.

The scam saw the light when Income Tax officials were conducting a search of MDM’s Chennai premises. MDM had paid a total of Rs 39.91 crore Rupees to Vijaya Baskar (Health Minister) and two former Chennai Police Commissioners. The bribe was paid to carry on the sale of the banned substance. The case involves ministers running top portfolios and high ranking police officers.
