Sachin Tendulkar Urges People To Help Victims Of Kerala Floods

The people of Kerala are fighting for life because of the floods that are destroying the state since last few days. Over 41 people have died in the southern coastal state since last week. Thousands of people are homeless and are deprived of basic needs. In such worse scenario, Cricketer &star batsman Sachin Tendulkar has urged the people to help the people in Kerala by making small contributions. He took to Twitter to appeal his followers to contribute to Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

He wrote on Twitter:

“Prayers are always good but in times of dire need and suffering we all can do more. Right now the victims and families of the #KeralaFloods need our help. Let’s show them that we #StandWithKerala. Even a small contribution to Kerala’s #CMDRF would go a long way.”

Currently, there is a red alert in 8 out of 14 districts. About 54,000 people are homeless and living in camps. According to the reports, about 7,500 families have been evacuated in Ernakulam alone.

Sachin Tendulkar is himself doing his bits to help the victims. Sachin, who was a Rajya Sabha MP donated his salary and allowances to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

The Kerala Government has also announced that Onam celebrations will be cancelled and the amount of Rs 30 crore which was kept for the purpose as part of cultural funds will be used for disaster relief.

Onam was to be celebrated on August 25.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, “What has occurred in our state has been the worst ever (disaster). A total of 444 villages have been affected. “The money set aside for Onam will be used for relief. We seek everyone’s help in our efforts.”
