The Statue of Unity was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, that is, on 31st October 2018. Wearing a traditional dhoti and shawl, the statue is of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister.
Unveiling the world’s tallest statue, Prime Minister shared a tweet on his official twitter handle in which he dedicated the statue to the people of this nation and also showed his gratitude towards Sardar Patel who devoted his entire life to build this nation. Have a look at his tweet:

Statue Of Unity Height:
With 182 meters high, it is touted to be the world’s tallest statue. The second tallest statue in the world is Spring Temple Buddha situated in China which stands 153 meter tall. On number 3 is Ushiku Daibutsu located in Japan which is 120 meter tall. The famous Statue of Liberty in the US is 93 meter tall and is half the height of the Statue of Unity.
Talking about the significance of the statue, PM Narendra Modi had said, “The Statue will stand high, not just in meters and feet, but much more in terms of academic, historical, national and spiritual values. My vision is to develop the place as a source of inspiration for ages to come.”
Statue of Unity Location:
The Statue of Unity is located in Sadhu-Bet Island, Gujarat. It occupies around 20,000 square meters of area and is surrounded by a 12 square km artificial lake.
Statue of Unity In Which River?
The statue stands tall on the banks of Narmada River. Located on the river island, it faces the Narmada Dam near Rajpipla, Gujarat.
Statue of Unity Project:
The project was announced on 7 October 2010. The Gujarat Government had established The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust (SVPRET) to build the statue. Statue of Unity Movement was also started to support the construction of the statue. It also organized a petition which was signed by around 20 million people making it the world’s largest signed petition.
In 2014, the contract for the construction, design, and maintenance was given to Larsen & Toubro. The statue is built at a total cost of Rs 2,989 crore (US $420 million). It was built in a Public Private Partnership Model in which most of the money (around Rs 2,063 crore) was raised by the Government of Gujarat.
Statue of Unity Completion Date:
The construction of the statue began on 31 October 2014 and was completed in mid-October 2018. It was unveiled on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, that is, on 31 October 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Entry Fee For Statue of Unity:
The entry to visit and view the iconic statue will start from 3rd November 2018. The entry ticket for an adult is Rs 120 and Rs 60 for children from 3 to 15 years of age. You will have to additionally pay Rs 30 towards bus charges.
You can get the ticket for observation deck view at Rs 350 if you are an adult. The same pricing applies to children as well.
