Student Of The Year 2 Movie Review: Film fails to win hearts!

The 2012 release Student of the Year was a film about students in a Dehradoon school who turn from best friends to rivals as they participate in a competitive annual event to win the title of ‘Student of the year’. The big budget movie directed by Karan Johar launched three actors- Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Siddharth Malhotra. All three actors have been winning the hearts of the audience with each film since then.

After a gap of 6 years, Karan Johar took the franchise forward by releasing Student of the year 2. The film stars handsome hunk Tiger Shroff and introduced two actresses- Ananya Pandey and Tara Sutaria. The film has been produced by Karan Johar and directed by Punit Malhotra. In the film, the competition has gone inter-school this time. The film has nothing new to offer, be it in terms of storyline, or the characters. There is a rich bully son of school trustee (Aditya Seal), a middle-class student on a sports scholarship (Tiger Shroff), a campus brat (Ananya Pandey), and a pretty chic confused over matters of the heart (Tara Sutaria).

The film is not only predictable and boring but is also far from reality. The college girls come straight out from fashion magazine wearing the most expensive dresses. The boys look too old to be called college boys who hardly fit in college uniform.

The new star cast fails to spread the magic in terms of their acting. The only good thing about the film is Tiger Shroff who wins hearts with his abs, dancing, and fighting. Tiger’s abs constantly try to lift up the film, but the storyline and screenplay push the film down.

Even the Internet is upset with the new release. Here’s how people are reacting.

In the new age, when Content is king and films like Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho, Shubh Mangal Savdhan, Newton, etc are being watched, Student of the year 2 is completely unwanted and unnecessary. The film collected just Rs 12 crore on day 1 at the box office. We will now see how it performs on the weekend. The average rating given to the film is 2.5 stars by film pundits!
