Badhaai Ho! actor Neena Gupta reacted to the cast of the movie “Saand Ki Aankh”. Young actors Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar are playing the role of old women who become champion sharpshooters at the age of 60 years. To enact the roles of Chandro and Prakashi Tomar, both Bhumi and Taapsee had to mould themselves by make-up.
There has been a mixed reaction to the cast post the release of poster and trailer of Saand Ki Aankh over social media. The movie is based on the real-life story of Chandro and Prakashi Tomar who became famous octogenarian champion sharpshooters. Social media seems to stay divided over the drama while some going gaga over the cast and many have criticized the cast decision.
One such Twitter user pointed out the cast of Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar are too young to play the role of octogenarian Tomar sisters. They are actually miscast in the inspirational story. Another user felt that Neena Gupta, Shabana Azmi or Jaya Bachchan would have been a better fit for the movie. But the makers went with contemporary names who are in their early 30s but are playing women double their age.
Yes i was just thinking about this hamari umar ke role toe kamsekam humse kara lo bhai https://t.co/6Fmrxn0HbE

Neena Gupta was prompt in responding and echoing similar sentiments, saying, “Yes, I was just thinking about this. Hamari umar ke role toe kamsekam humse kara lo bhai (At least cast us for the role that suit our age)”.
But the actress was quick to respond saying she had nothing personal against the cast to which we agree. She wrote, “I liked the trailer, #SaandKiAankh and I have great respect for both the actors @bhumipednekar @taapsee chalo lets wish the film good luck also to #AnuragKashyap who I am very fond of, chalo apna time ayega”
Rangoli Chandel, sister of actor Kangana Ranaut, also came forward and seconded Gupta. In a series of tweets, she revealed that the role was initially offered to Ranaut who turned it down as she felt that Gupta or Ramya could do justice to the role.
“Neena ji Kangana was offered this movie and she loved the true story of Grandmom’s achievements she suggested yours and Ramya Krishnan ma’am’s name for lead roles but these men can’t remove deeply rooted sexism from their filthy brains …We will never have a Meryl Streep in India if we keep shamelessly displaying older women phobia like this… shame on you all Bolly filth… for promoting sexism in the name of feminism,” Rangoli said.

When another Twitter user commented the same, Neena lauded Kangana for suggesting her name. “Oh really how nice of Kangana,” she said.
Pannu also came forward to clear the air “once n for all” by saying how none of the Bollywood actors are under the inspection and radar of social media when they essay characters half their age. She also felt that before reacting, viewers should wait until the release of the film to see how it all turns out to be.
I hope and can only hope this will answer the question once n for all coz honestly now it’s getting boring for us to repeat ourselves.
