A lot of mainstream Bollywood films are coming to streaming services due to theatres not opening up as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. The most recent blockbuster to make it to the digital platform was Gulabo Sitabo on Prime Video. But this is not the end of releases. Disney+Hotstar is planning to release eight films over the next couple of months.
The lockdown forced a lot of producers to put their movies on streaming services to curb their losses. However, Rohit Shetty and Kabir Khan decided to delay the release of their films instead.
Taran Adarsh, a Bollywood analyst, tweeted confirming that Sooryavanshi and 83 will come to theatres first. PVR Cinemas also confirmed this fact. According to PVR Cinemas, Sooryavanshi will come to theatres during Diwali. On the other hand, 83 will be out during Christmas 2020.
PVR Cinemas posted a tweet saying, “Exciting times ahead.. Gearing up to release Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi on Diwali and Kabir Khan’s 83 on Christmas this 2020!”
In Sooryavasnhi by Rohit Shetty, we will see Akshay Kumar as a leader of an anti-terror squad. The film will also feature Ajay Devgn as Bajirao Singham and Ranveer Singh as Simmba. Katrina Kaif will appear as the female lead.
83 by Kabir Khan is the story of how the Indian Cricket team created history by winning the 1983 ICC Cricket World Cup. The film features Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, and Deepika Padukone will appear as Romi Bhatia (wife of Kapil Dev). Additionally, 83 includes Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu and Ammy Virk in supporting roles.
There were lots of rumors and speculations that Sooryavanshi and 83 would get released on streaming platforms. However, it has now been confirmed that the two films will get released in theatres only.
